Skipperlaks – Christmas at Sea

“There’s a Christmas party on board, but I long for home in the North.” Jodle Birge sang those words years ago in Sømandsjul. The two cheerful crew members of the popular maritime duo SKIPPERLAKS, also known from DK4, sing them too in November and December. In Christmas with Skipperlaks, familiar sea songs are joined by a boatload of popular Christmas songs. In truth, Skipperlaks left life aboard the fishing boats behind long ago. Now these musical landlubbers sing with skill and humour about sailors, girls, taverns and life at sea. Christmas with Skipperlaks is an ideal choice for seasonal events, especially Christmas lunches at care homes, residential facilities and seniors’ clubs. What would a Danish Christmas lunch be without communal singing, sea songs and Christmas music? Skipperlaks brings all three. The programme includes Søren Banjomus, where banjo-playing Michael Staun is in his element. The duo’s other half, Phil Nice, is equally at home on the accordion and as a crooner in White Christmas and Bella Notte, known from Disney’s Christmas programme. Skipperlaks also sails through familiar sea songs: from Otto Brandenburg’s Susanne Birgitte og Hanne and Når en sailer går i land, via Ove Bager’s Lundeborghymnen, to Kim Larsen’s Sømanden Will Den Fromme. They head towards Jutland with De Gyldne Løver’s Ved hawet and Hjemmebrænderiet. When the audience wants to join in, the duo strikes up Jeg har en ven, en rigtig sailer and Four Jacks’ Mandalay.
